THE NEW ISO 9001:2015
On the 22nd of September 2015 three years of work on the part of experts from 95 countries (participants and observers) terminated and led to the issuing the new ISO 9001 “Quality management systems - Requirements”, which replaces ISO 9001:2008.
The 2015 version is less restrictive compared to the previous one and concentrates on performance, combining the process approach based on risk and using the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle at all organisational levels.
The main changes introduced are:
Þ greater top management involvement
Þ a new structure (“High Level Structure”) common to all ISO management system standards
Þ analysis of the context and expectations of the parties interested
Þ emphasis on the process and monitoring approach by way of indicators
Þ approach based on “risk management”
As in the previous revamping of the standard, there is a transitional period lasting 3 years, starting from the date of publication, during which companies will be able to update their management system.
